Summary
In the tradition of Christiane Northrup, a renowned cardiologist integrates emotional and physical well-being in a revolutionary new approach to womens heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in the United States. As a cardiologist with specializations in preventative cardiology and womens heart disease, Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum has dedicated her career to empowering women to keep their hearts, and themselves, healthy. She has observed that patients who seem to be at the peak of their lives are also often at the peak of their stress levels. Instead of enjoying better health and happiness, and reaping the rewards of career and family achievements, many of the women who come to see her suffer from chest pain, palpitations, and other alarming symptoms. Often, the cause is lifestyle-related, calling for a holistic approach that transcends medical intervention alone. The regimen Dr. Steinbaum developed has transformed thousands of lives and is now available to every woman in "Dr. Suzanne Steinbaums Heart Book." Shifting the focus from stress-inducing to heart-centered living, Dr. Steinbaums program helps readers open their hearts and experience a deep level of self-care, putting their heart health in their hands. Covering the traditional risk factors of heart disease, including how to control weight and blood pressure, she demonstrates how emotional awareness and self-image also play key roles in heart health. The book provides clear, step-by-step "prescriptions" for integrating diet, exercise, sleep, and a healthy sex life with stress management and loving relationships. The result is an intuitive, lifelong plan that addresses the root causes of heart disease. Published during American Heart Month, "Dr. Suzanne Steinbaums Heart Book "delivers a refreshing new approach to heart-centered healing.

Publisher's Weekly Review
Get out of your head and live in your heart, Lenox Hill Hospital cardiologist Steinbaum urges in this chatty "you go girl" guide to getting and staying on the right health track. Steinbaum decries the "heartsickness" that runs rampant in today's world, putting increasingly younger women at risk for cardiac disease, an ailment that kills more women than all forms of cancer, lung disease, Alzheimer's, and accidents combined. Mental stress-encompassing anxiety, depression, hostility, and social isolation-is very damaging; essentially, "the heart is suffering from oxygen deprivation every time you" allocate blood to the brain to deal with stress. Steinbaum illuminates the mechanics of heart disease and counsels women on how they can help themselves, from eating healthy and exercising to keeping a detailed "heart book." While nimbly tackling the technical aspects of heart disease and preventive measures, Steinbaum's greatest strength is her ability to connect with readers. "When I say, 'Live from the heart,' I'm saying 'Live from that place of who you are,' " she writes. "It's about really understanding your best qualities and letting them shine." Her big-sister approach is just what the doctor ordered. Agent: Sarah Jane Freymann, Sarah Jane Freymann Literary Agency. (Feb.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
