I Want the Wide American Earth exhibition on display at the National Museum of American History, 2013.
Established in 1997, the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center produces educational programs, exhibitions and research about the Asian Pacific American experience, and works in partnership with museums and centers across the Smithsonian and beyond to enrich collections and activities about Asian Pacific America. “I Want the Wide American Earth: An Asian Pacific American E-Comic” is an illustrated adaption of the “I Want the Wide American Earth: An Asian Pacific American Story” banner exhibition. Produced in collaboration with SI Universe Media, creators of the first-ever Asian Pacific American comics anthology, the e-comic tells the Asian Pacific American story in graphic narrative, featuring work by seven exciting Asian Pacific American comic artists. “I Want the Wide American Earth: An Asian Pacific American Story” was created by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES). The exhibition is supported by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Bernard Chang is an Asian-American artist/ designer, best known for his work in the comic book industry and entertainment design. Some of his most popular illustrated work includes Wonder Woman, Superman, and Supergirl. He currently draws “Green Lantern Corps” for DC Comics. Brooklyn cartoonist/illustrator GB Tran’s graphic memoir VIETNAMERICA details his family’s survival through the Vietnam War and US immigration. Selected by TIME as an all-time “Top 10 Graphic Memoir”, it also earned a New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship in nonfiction literature and gold medal from the Society of Illustrators.
