Event Details

with special guests Light of East Ensemble

The Arabic word inshallah means “God willing”. Inshallah Choir sings songs of praise and prayer from around the world, with a particular focus on songs that speak to themes of social justice. Inshallah is a group of community singers based at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary under the direction of Debbie Lou Ludolph. The idea for the choir was inspired by a trip to Palestine in 2007, where Debbie Lou and a team of others had a transforming time worshipping and singing in the midst of all that they were experiencing.

Also performing this evening is Light of East Ensemble, a multicultural group based in London, Ontario. The band brings cultures together with sounds from around the world, performing music from the Near and Middle East, and the Mediterranean, including Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria, as well as Jewish Sephardic music, and folk and classical Arabic compositions.

This concert of harmony and reconciliation is presented in association with the JM Drama production of the play The Arab Israeli Cookbook. The Arab-Israeli Cookbook is presented by JM Drama at The Registry Theatre, May 5th – 7th. registrytheatre.com. It is a drama created from the everyday realities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Based upon intimate, first hand interviews conducted in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank, the one unifying feature of these meetings was that the subjects were cooking their daily meals.
