San Pablo set to break ground for new library

The new library will occupy 22,000 square feet in an LEED certified building at the site of a former Walgreen’s Pharmacy at 13731 San Pablo Ave.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new San Pablo Library branch will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 19 at the corner of Church Lane and San Pablo Avenue.

The new library will occupy 22,000 square feet in an LEED certified building at the site of a former Walgreen’s Pharmacy at 13731 San Pablo Ave.

The $6 million project, designed by Group 4 Architecture, will include a full-service cafe and is expected to open next summer.

Speakers at the ceremony will include City Manager Matt Rodriguez, Mayor Rich Kinney, county Supervisor John Gioia, interim County Librarian Terry Speiker and San Pablo Library branch Manager Gia Paolini.
