When a young family is forced off the highway by a blizzard, they arrive in the town of Good Night, Idaho. Good night is a semi-abandoned mining town, and there they find shelter in a grand, nearly empty hotel. With nowhere else to go, family tensions begin to mount. The couple - Tonio and Julia - are taking Tonio's alcoholic brother home with them for one last chance to sober up. But the hotel begins to exert a mysterious pull on them. One by one, the family members become caught up in strange forcefields: Robbie begins experiencing frightening lapses in time and space, which cannot just be blamed on his drinking. Tonio, caught in a loop, finds himself mysteriously returning to the lobby every time he sets out to find Dewey, his precocious ten-year-old son. It is up to Dewey, haunted by visions of his parents and ghostly images flickering across the hotel TV screen, to track down his family. But is he any match for the powers of the Travelers' Rest? And what does the history of the hotel have to do with why the family's sudden arrival?
