85 Queen: William Lyon Mackenzie King and the 70th Anniversary of Canadian Citizenship

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Event Details

With Robert Roe, former curator and current historian at Woodside National Historic Site.

Canada was the first dominion of the British Empire to instate a separate citizenship from that of Great Britain. In fact, the creation of Canadian citizenship was one of the first actions after the Second World War that led to the Canada of today.

Together, we will explore the roots of Canadian citizenship and how the efforts of Mackenzie King's government and the work of Paul Martin Sr. changed the face of Canada and the British Empire.

This program is offered in part in celebration of Canada 150.
