Speaker, author, and traveler Jeanne Roppolo joins us to share the story of her adventures in Antarctica. Jeanne was stationed in the frigid continent for five months as a contract worker for the National Science Foundation. Tag along with Grandma on her extreme excursion. Stories of Breast Cancer Survival with Author Mary Anne Mohanraj

When Oak Park–based author Mary Anne Mohanraj learned she had breast cancer, she immediately began recording the details in her blog. These entries became the new book Tornado, an honest, day-by-day account of diagnosis, chemo, surgery, radiation, and reconstruction, over a three-year period. At this event, Mary Anne will read from her book and discuss her experience as a breast cancer survivor. 

Film Lover Fridays

This season, we’re paying tribute to the king of summer blockbusters, Steven Spielberg. Today we’ll be watching Spielberg’s very first film, Duel (1971). This automotive thriller about a motorist being chased by a truck driver is often considered the best made-for-television film ever made. Stick around for a post-film discussion led by local movie expert Jim Jacob. Snacks will be provided.
