Today's bi-monthly gardening program will feature Joan Rose, a volunteer at Idlewild Butterfly Farm and Insectarium, located in Louisville, KY. She will talk about butterfly gardening with an emphasis on the Monarch butterfly, from egg to adult. In her presentation, Rose will cover the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly, the various threats facing them and then present ways someone can help them. She will also talk about how providing these beautiful creatures with their only host plant, the Milkweed, plus nectar plants, is what they need to survive. Each person who attends will learn how to create a Waystation for the Monarchs and how to get the Waystation certified. In addition, Rose is planning to bring live specimens representing the stages of the Monarch, to the class.
