We'll celebrate achievements for participating in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program while learning about the benefits of reading aloud with your child.
About 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is an initiative by the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS) in support of a nationwide effort to encourage parents of newborns, infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to make reading aloud a daily priority.
Each year, “more than 1 in 3 children enter kindergarten without the language skills they need to learn to read,” according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Reading aloud with children ages 0 to 5 supports early literacy and pre-reading skills, fosters a love of books and learning, and strengthens bonding between the child and parents or caregivers.
