Author Notes

Marissa Meyer received a bachelor's degree in creative writing and children's literature from Pacific Lutheran University and a master's degree in publishing from Pace University. After graduation, she worked as an editor in Seattle before becoming a freelance typesetter and proofreader. Under the penname Alicia Blade, she wrote over forty Sailor Moon fanfics and a novelette entitled The Phantom of Linkshire Manor, which was published in the gothic romance anthology Bound in Skin.

Meyer is the author of The Lunar Chronicles. In 2015 she made The New York Times Best Seller List with her titles Cress and Fairest which are books 3 and 3.5 of the Lunar Chronilces. Marissa's novel, Heartless, made The New York Times Best Seller List in 2016.

In this second engaging graphic novel (spun-off from the long-running sci-fi series), android Iko risks everything to protect her friend, Lunar Queen Cinder, from Lysander Steele's bioengineered wolf-soldiers. Meyer also compellingly weaves in discussion of nature versus nurture as Iko struggles with revelations concerning her humanity. Dialogue and action blend seamlessly across Gilpin's monochrome-blue panels, allowing fans to savor this reunion with all their favorite characters. (c) Copyright 2019. Android Iko is still hunting down rogue wolf-soldier Steele, but her quest takes on a new urgency after he convinces Iko's friend Wolf to join his renegade cause. Now Iko and the frustrating (but handsome!) guard Liam Kinney must scramble to prevent a massacre during Cinder's visit to Earth for the annual Peace Festival. Picking up directly after volume one and leading smoothly into the last story from Meyer's collection Stars Above (2016), Iko's second graphic-novel outing might not be a groundbreaking work, but it will more than satisfy the series' many fans. All of the usual crew are present, and there is action, romance, and plenty of snappy banter. Gilpin's art brings the characters to life and close to their book descriptions, though several of the guys are hard to distinguish from one another. Readers who haven't read the series previously will be lost, but current fans will be delighted to revisit Meyer's futuristic Earth and her young saviors.
