Test at the library

When you’re ready to take your GED test, come test with the library. The Dallas Public Library operates an official GED testing Center. The testing center is located on the 3rd floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. Our testing center is open some evenings and weekend hours. Not sure what to expect? Read on for details of how testing works and how you can obtain an Atmos Energy Scholarship (English, Español).

What is the GED?

Passing the GED test is one way of earning your Texas High School Equivalency Certificate. The GED is a series of four tests: Reading through Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies. GED tests last anywhere from 70 minutes to 150 minutes. Tests are administered on the computer. To register to take a test, you’ll have to create an account with on GED.com.

How do I obtain a scholarship?

The Dallas Public Library proudly offers full scholarships to take the GED. Generous funding from Atmos Energy makes these scholarships possible. To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must demonstrate that they are ready to take the test and write a short essay. You can find scholarship applications here (English, Español). Complete the scholarship application and submit it along with your essay to email adultlearning@dallas.gov . The scholarships can cover the GED Ready pretest, the official GED test, and retake tests.
