Amy Godfrey is a cartoonist, artist, and aerial dancer, and as the former Manager of Children’s Services at the Southwest Regional Library, created the Durham Comics Fest in 2010. She is also the brains behind the Durham Comics Project book! Find out more about Amy at amykgodfrey.com.

Jenny Zervakis is the Durham-based creator of Strange Growths, the influential comics zine that opted for personal, contemplative storytelling in the otherwise brash and violent alt-comics scene of the 1990s. The Comics Journal calls it “an acknowledgement of the prismatic quality of life—the sheer breadth of its pitfalls and possibilities.”

Win yourself some prizes, and maybe even the grudging respect of your peers! For adults age 21 and up only.

Drink & Draw with the Durham Comics Project at Cocoa Cinnamon 7-8 p.m. at Cocoa Cinnamon 420 W. Geer St. in Durham Join the Durham Comics Project for a special Drink & Draw! Enjoy low-key, cooperative drawing exercises or do your own thing in a no-pressure, all-fun environment with other artists, and stay tuned for updates on a food truck visit! All ages and skill levels welcome.

Comic Book Swap 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Meeting Room Hang out with fellow comics lovers and trade your way to a new collection! Single issues and collected editions are welcome. Please note that no money may be exchanged during this event. For all ages – no registration required.

Draw Your Life with Liz Prince 1-2 p.m. in the Children's Program Room Follow along in this workshop as Liz Prince shows you her process and inspirations, guides you through making a cartoon version of yourself, and sets you on the path to creating your own comics autobiography. Documentary Film Screening: Seth's Dominion 3 p.m. at Southwest Regional Library 3605 Shannon Rd. in Durham Seth’s Dominion is an intimate and quirky portrait of the cartoonist behind It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken, Palookaville, and Wimbledon Green. Seth himself narrates most of this examination of his nostalgic world-building, including several cartoons adapted from his journals.
