Jewish Film Fest

Jewish Mini-Film Fest

Saturday, April 6 @ 1:00 PM

Free and open to all! A documentary about an iconic Middle Eastern food and a drama about the occupation of France during World War 2 will highlight this year’s Jewish Mini Film Festival. Film selections include Life & Hummus (documentary/not rated, 40 minutes), and Farewell, Mr. Haffmann  (R, 1 hour 56 minutes). The film festival features a coffee cake break to encourage kibitzing – (informal chatting). Bring your friends and family!

Life & Hummus documeLife & Hummusnts a Jewish American filmmaker as he travels through Israel and Palestine in hope of finding “the world’s best” hummus. His search for the food’s origins also introduces him to both Arabic and Israeli people with a common love for the iconic regional cuisine, discovering that this dish has a history and impact far beyond what he originally ever imagined.

Upon entering, movie attendees will be invited to try delicious hummus (chick pea spread) and baba ganoush (roasted eggplant spread) with pita bread!

Farewell, Mr. HaffmanFarewell, Mr. Haffman is set against the fearsome climate of occupied France in World War II. A dedicated Parisian jeweler, Joseph Haffmann, plans to flee after his family does, but his plans are thwarted. He must seek his assistant’s protection. This turns out to be a risky proposition with serious ramifications for both men, changing their fates. This drama has won 18 international film awards.

The program is sponsored by the Blossom and Irving Levin Jewish Cultural Fund of Sinai Temple and the Michigan City Public Library. The features will be shown on Saturday, April 6 from 1:00 p.m.- 4:45 p.m.
