The Great Escape: A Canadian Story

6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Country Hills Community Library
CH Meeting Room

Event Details

You’ve seen the Hollywood movie, now learn the real Canadian story! Based on his original interviews and research, author Ted Barris digs deep to reveal the truth behind one of the Second World War’s most riveting stories of courage and perseverance. And it’s not the story you think you know. Many of the Great Escape’s key players – the tunnel designer, excavators, forgers, and scroungers – were all Canadians. If you weren’t already proud to be Canadian – you will be after tonight! Ted Barris is an accomplished author, journalist, and broadcaster. He has been a CBC Radio host and a regular contributor to the National Post, and various national magazines. In 2011 he received the Canadian Minister of Veterans’ Affairs Commendation and in 2012 the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Currently, Ted is a full-time professor of journalism and broadcasting at Centennial College in Toronto.
